Luc
Bergeron,
originally from Lewiston, Maine, comes from a family of musicians
and singers on both his mother's and father's sides, but is the
only one in the family who had any interest in drumming. After much
begging and pleading he was finally given a used drum set when he
turned 12. His first formal lessons were with regionally well-known
drummer and teacher Dick Demers. |

Luc
was a founding member of the rock band "Symmetry" while
still in high school, which in 1986 recorded a demo that snagged
national management (Fred Lewis - ex-mgr for "The Cars"),
received radio airplay in Maine and Massachusetts, and generated
major record label interest. The band played extensively through
New England. After he left Symmetry in 1988, he spent a while wondering
what he was going to do with his life, and decided to attend the
University of Southern Maine as an English major during the fall
semester of 1989. When he saw master drummer Steve Smith (Journey,
Vital Information, sessions artist) in the spring of 1990 at a concert
at the University of Maine in Augusta, it moved him to get serious
about music, and so attended UMA's nationally known Jazz and Contemporary
Music program. While there he had one-on-one instruction from drummer/pianist/composer
Steve Grover.

Since
then, Luc has played classic soul and R&B, mixes of world music/reggae/pop,
classic rock, acoustic trio jazz, electric fusion, and has performed
on several various recording sessions. He was also the original
house drummer for the Tuesday jams at the Free Street Taverna in
Portland during the late winter of 2002. His very first drum heroes
were Peter Criss and Ringo Starr. Alan White, Bill Bruford, Carl
Palmer, Neil Peart, Joe Morello, Steve Smith, Vinnie Colaiuta, Horacio
Hernandez, Peter Erskine, Manu Katche, and Gary Husband have since
influenced him over the years. |

Luc
has been teaching since 1993, and has done so at Spectrum Music
in Lewiston & Brunswick, The Music Centre in Brunswick, and
The Drum Shop in Portland. He has had several different day gigs,
but since June of 2005 he has owned his own dog-centered business,
Kamp K9 (formerly Paw Prince Bed & Biscuit), a dog day care
and pet boarding facility in Scarborough, at which Luc now works
full-time. He also does some writing, and with his background in
English and public speaking, is quite articulate in verbal and written
formats, which makes him an effective communicator with his students
and his customers. It also serves him well in the political activism
in which he partakes. He has also written a book, "Beginning
Drum Set Coordination", which he has self-published. He and
his 4 dogs live in Scarborough, Maine. |
